I don’t know about you, but when it is really warm out, the last thing I want is something hot. It is partly due to my fiery constitution, and also due to the fact that food is a metabolic stimulator. This time of year, I tend to lean towards foods and drinks that are cooling and refreshing, such as Strawberry Lemonade.
Strawberry Lemonade is a simple tasty treat that you can easily make within a couple of minutes. Hydration is extremely important when it is hot out, so this is a great way to improve the taste of water to get more fluids in you. Yes, because we are using fruit there will be a little more sugar content to this recipe, but because it is from whole foods and used in moderation, I am fine with the natural sugars!
About the Ingredients in Strawberry Lemonade
Strawberries are great for their antioxidant properties, which are needed to remove free radicals from the body. Strawberries are also on the Dirty Dozen list for pesticides, so make sure to get organic, and use them when they are in season!
Lemons are amazing for detoxification and digestion. They are also loaded with vitamin C, which is extremely helpful for the immune system, adrenal function, and for producing healthy collagen. I use this lemon reamer to get the juice from the lemons!
First take your lemons and cut them in half. You can decide to remove the seeds or not (I tend to leave them). Use the lemon reamer or squeezer to juice the lemons. Juice directly into your blender (I use a ninja blender).
Then, add in your strawberries. I like to freeze my strawberries first so that I don’t need to dilute the flavors with added ice. Add your water and blend on high for 1 minute.
Next, pour it into your cup of choice. It is up to you to decide if you want to share this delicious treat, or hoard it all to yourself!
This makes for a nice and refreshing evening drink while you watch the sunsets.
