We are deep in the Cold and Flu season, and it seems as though everyone around me is fighting off some kind of ailment. I have felt my immune system fighting desperately to keep at bay all the nasty bugs, but it has finally taken its toll. My throat has slowly been getting dry and sore all day long. What can we take naturally that will help soothe  a sore throat and help strengthen the immune system? Below I have some herbs that can do exactly the trick, and you can find a recipe to combine them into an herbal tea.

Herbs for Cold and Flu

Licorice Root– Anti-Inflammatory, Anti-Viral, and Anti-Bacterial, this can help with coughs, fight infections, and break up phlegm.
Slippery Elm– An Anti-Septic and Anti-Allergic agent.
Marshmallow Root– Anti-Inflammatory and helps soothe the throat.
Anise– Anti-Microbial and helps break up phlegm.
Wild Cherry– Cough suppressant.

Ingredients

  • 1 part Licorice Root
  • 1 part Marshmallow Root
  • 1 part Slippery Elm
  • 1 part Wild Cherry
  • 1 part Anise

Instructions

  • Steep 2 teaspoons of this blend in hot water for a quick sore throat relief!
