Welcome to 2018! Since this time of year everyone starts to set their health goals and everyone is talking about topics related to wellness, we are starting our first episode talking about 2 different health-related topics: Alzheimer's and the Keto diet.Alzheimer's is one of those interesting diseases that scientists have worked hard to study, but have made very little progress with finding treatment options. Most of the time when the diagnosis is made, the family is told that there isn't much hope, and eventually the disease will fully take over their mind.
When it comes to using herbal products to help balance the body from all the stressors and toxins we face on a daily basis, I am a huge fan. It is rare to find an herbal product that doesn't have a bunch of fillers, so when I caught wind of HANAH ONE, they had my attention.Even if you had no idea what every single herb did in this blend, you could easily recognize that there are no ingredients that don't come directly from the earth. This alone makes this type of product unique.
Have you ever suffered from an ankle sprain, and it felt like it was taking forever for it to recover? Most of the time when an ankle sprain occurs, the rehabilitation process doesn't actually address the best ways for recovery. We see a lot of ankles placed in a brace, then people still continue to do the activities they love. The problem with this type of rehab is that the foot and ankle are made to move, and by not properly addressing the ankle sprain, it starts to lose its mobility and stiffens up. I see a lot of people in my clinic who's ankle and foot don't function properly due to an ankle sprain that wasn't treated correctly.
When people come to my clinic to see me for their health issues, one of the questions I ask is what their support structure looks like within their family to support them on their health journey. I then ask if the family is prepared to make any changes necessary to the way they eat in order to better everyone's health, and I include the children.A lot of the time the response I get is "how would I ever get my kids to stop eating the sugar and the processed food? It tastes too good!"This is a very valid question, and one that not many people have a great response to. Children have always seemed to be invincible when it comes to dietary and health decisions, and there hasn't been a need to try and get children to understand what food can do to support, or break down the body. That is until recently.
When using various products, we always look at the multi-functional approach to how we can utilize the product. If it only serves one purpose, we tend to avoid that at all costs since to us it is wasted space. We have many resources on our site to use these products with, so if you purchase any of them, you have some ideas on how to fully use it to the best of its ability (for example, Instant Pot Recipes). We also believe in getting products for good deals, so if you find something isn't actually on sale for Cyber Monday, then don't get it! Almost all of these items will be on sale at some point in the near future.
Instant Pot Maple Ham with Homemade Cranberry Sauce-4.1
Sunday, November 19, 2017 / Published in Holidays, Increased Vitality, Kids, Main Dishes, Nutrition, Recipes
No one likes dry meat right? This Maple Ham recipe is guaranteed to be anything but dry! If you haven't had a chance to test out an Instant Pot in your kitchen, I definitely recommend looking into one as all of the holiday sales are right around the corner! Every single item I put in my Instant Pot to cook comes out tender and flavorful...and it's like a crockpot. Once I set the timer, it does all the work for me and I don't even have to think about dinner again until it's cooked! Talk about an awesome product to have in your kitchen, especially during the holidays. If you're a multi-tasker like me, you definitely don't want to have to stand over your dinner and watch it cook while an hour or sometimes more dwindles away.
During the fall, pumpkin spice everything seems to make their rounds through the stores- pumpkin spice lattes, pumpkin spice cookies, pumpkin spice brownies, and the list goes on and on. Overall, I am not a huge fan of the taste of pumpkin, but when it comes to Pumpkin Spice Hot Chocolate, I actually enjoy it quite a bit!
In our last podcast episode, Dr. Al Danenberg talked a lot about how he has integrated an Ancestral Diet into the way he practices Periodontics. He has noticed a huge increase in health changes in his own life by changing his diet, and recognizes the importance of that in overall health and oral health. With that episode, we received a lot of questions on how to actually start an ancestral diet, and what that diet looks like compared to other diets that are out there.
Paleo Biscuits and Gravy
Tuesday, September 26, 2017 / Published in Breakfast, Increased Vitality, Kids, Nutrition, Recipes
I was a picky eater growing up, and to be honest I never tried biscuits and gravy until I was about 19. Once I finally tried it, it was obvious why this was a popular breakfast option. With the rich buttery biscuits and the savory flavor of the gravy, it is a meal that is hard to mess up. Lucky for me, I only just delved into the world of B&G at such a late stage because it probably would have made it much more difficult to switch over to Paleo Biscuits and Gravy.
Cupping has finally made it to the modern world since the last Olympics when many of our nation's top athletes were sporting the circular bruises. Cupping has been used in places like China for thousands of years, where it has been integrated into their medical care along with injury care. Our guest today has taken some of the traditional cupping roots and integrated it with his functional movement background to come up with a unique approach to functional cupping.
Paleo Granola
Tuesday, September 19, 2017 / Published in Breakfast, Increased Vitality, Nutrition, Recipes
Growing up I was always a big fan of granola instead of the regular ol' cereal that the rest of the family would eat. I was always the weird one who didn't eat my granola or cereal with milk either, I just liked it nice and plain. As I got older, I started to realize that granola is full of gluten containing oats, and with trying to eat grain-free, granola became a big deal breaker for me. Finally a couple years ago I decided to try and create a Paleo Granola recipe that would be grain-free, but completely irresistible.
Sometimes the best way to release the stress from a long day is to tie up your shoes, grab your heart rate monitor, and go for a long run. The zucchini in our garden is absolutely exploding right now. It seems nearly every day I am picking 2-3 large zucchinis off the vine. We've already shared our Paleo Cinnamon Zucchini Bread recipe with you, we made our Chorizo Zucchini Boats (recipe coming later this week), what else could we possibly make? Well, it was time to get creative, and considering this time of year we enjoy dipping vegetables into various dips, it was only fitting to make our Avocado Zucchini Hummus recipe.
We are at the time of year when zucchini is popping up like crazy! If your garden has zucchini like mine does, you probably have some monster zucchini just waiting to be picked. I like to use the huge zucchini for recipes like Paleo Cinnamon Zucchini Bread, whereas the smaller zucchinis I use for zoodles and frying up.
With these hot summer days comes the inevitable: not wanting to cook. On days like this I prefer to have something colder to help keep my body cooler. I don't know about you, but usually salads aren't filling enough to keep me from needing more food later on. That is why in this balsamic peach salad, the secret ingredient to help keep me fuller for longer is...
